The 9th HopeHealth Human Dignity Award
This special award is given to those in our community who have dedicated themselves to the essence of hospice: to provide comfort, compassion and dignity to patients, and hope and healing to their families. Dignity at end of life means recognizing the person, their rich history, their lifetime of relationships and their desire for autonomy.
Richard Besdine, MD, and Terrie Fox Wetle, PhD
Drs. Besdine and Wetle have devoted their careers to research, education and policy to improve the care of people at end of life.
Distinguished Advocate Award
U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse
A longtime advocate for excellence in end-of-life care for Rhode Islanders and all Americans, Senator Whitehouse continues to prioritize the needs of older Americans in the Senate.
Spirit of Hope Award: Patrick Wallace, CHPNA
The winner of HopeHealth’s Spirit of Hope Award is Patrick Wallace, CHPNA! Patrick is an aide in the Hulitar Hospice Center and has worked at HopeHealth since 2007. He was chosen by the Philanthropy Committee of the Board of Directors from 28 nominees.
His recommenders had this to say about Patrick:
